Pengilfach is being restored to be shared, and this little website should be no different. We want everyone to be able to read it comfortably, whatever device or assistive technology they use.
The site is built with plain, semantic HTML with a clear heading structure and text that can be resized freely. Every photograph has a written description, and the hand-drawn illustrations carry full descriptions for screen readers too. Colours were chosen for contrast against the page background, links are underlined and show a clear focus outline for keyboard navigation, and the gentle animations (drifting chimney smoke, a wagging tail, swaying trees) are switched off automatically for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion. There are no time limits, pop-ups, or autoplaying media anywhere.
We aim towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA, but this is a hand-built family site rather than a professionally audited one, so there may be things we’ve missed. The mailing-list sign-up is handled by Mailchimp, whose pages are outside our control.
